nancy and eileen 1 year anniversary

It's our 1st year anniversary and we're gonna' party like it's 1999!

Well, we would if we had the time.

We won't wallow too long in Cucumber nostalgia, but it seems just like yesterday when we were excitedly unveiling our first collection. Since then we've learned so very much, including the correct way to put together a flat pack box, why casting models can be a nest of hornets ( and possibly a silicone implant or two) and why it's always a good idea to buy your factory manager a box of maple syrup cookies - even if they're on a diet.

With two collections under our belts, and two more to come this fall (see below), an unholy (and wholly welcome) amount of attention from the press and best of all, you, dear reader. Without your kind messages of support and interest, fabulous testimonials and all important orders, we wouldn't be here. So thank you, and please carry on following us - it's going to be a fun ride!

What's up with Cucumber?

Despite some remnant rays of summer sun, autumn has arrived. The great news is, so has our cashmere mix collection! Just two easy and perfect pieces. Our drawstring jumpsuit and kimono dress are made for snuggling on the sofa with a hot drink, big socks and the furry animal of your choice, as well as being the perfect foil to those glittery Jimmy Choos on night out. 24/7 style - that's us!
Our new collection will be available for sale through our website www.cucumberclothing.com from Wednesday 26th September.

Pieces are limited, so if you would like to preorder from this collection please email us as [email protected]

and dress it up.

Our fabulous cashmere mix jersey still has all our tried and tested thermoregulating, moisture-wicking qualities you love as well as being simply gorgeous to wear. Slightly weightier than our signature jersey, this cashmere mix hangs beautifully, doesn't crease and feels oh-so-comfortable on.

Here's the kimono style dress, again with a drawstring waist, cut slightly longer at the back than the front and with pockets!

Perfect 'off duty' throwover after the shower when working from home. Then add boots and scarf and you're good to go for that meeting all the way through dinner. What's not to love? Choose from darkest navy and fire engine red.

Next up

come October, are our brand new jersey pieces in a beautifully flattering soft pink and flecked olive. These are your everyday go to pieces. Wear the trackies and top to yoga, then slip on the ballet top and replace trackies with trousers and you're good to go. Once home, shoes off and trackies back on. Relax and zzzzzz.......

Q & A

with Sophie Benge from Ageing Gracefully

lady by a bed

We managed to catch up with the lovely Sophie from Ageing Gracefully. A health, beauty and wellness expert for over twenty years, Sophie curates extraordinary retreats that help women over forty 'navigate the biological and emotional ups and downs' . To find out more, visit her site.

What is your favourite childhood memory?
Playing with Barbie dolls in 1970s America when their outfits were properly stylish. Then making my own versions with help from Mum. My daughter played with the same and I wished then that we could up-size by 100 times, the puffy pink slippers, floaty flares and red patent mini macs of 40 years ago.

What is the best gift you’ve been given and why?
An introduction to Kalindi Jordan, a loving expert healer who has awakened me to the magic of my own sensual energy. When our metaphorical light is on, it ripples positively through so many aspects of our everyday lives. I’m delighted Kalindi will share her gentle practices and knowledge of the human energy system at my upcoming Ageing Gracefully Retreat this November.

Who is your dream dinner date and why?
Aaron Sorkin. As a journalist, I’m easily seduced by a ‘way with words’ and his script for the Social Network seduced me sufficiently that I stalked him during his BAFTA trip to London! I wrote him a letter, he replied effusively. I’d now love to exchange spoken rather than written words with him.

Top three things you love about London?
Three things that bring pleasure to my quotidian London life include Kensington Library, Hyde Park and the Russian Banya at a private club. I get inspired to write in the library, with her lofty proportions, palpable sense of study and colourful cast of characters who shuffle about, snooze and study there. Hyde Park, in all her seasonal guises, brings balance to my every day. And lots of picnics this summer. As a wellness expert, my all-time favourite therapy is the Banya for its revitalizing exchange of intense heat and plunging cold, plus being tapped naked top to toe with birch branches.

What’s next for Ageing Gracefully?
Following my own experience with the menopause and with the transformative powers of energy work for bringing me joy, I’m curating a series of retreats for women who want to live with more vitality and purpose. ‘Ageing Gracefully’ brings together four female experts to help women navigate the biological and emotional ups and downs of our changing wisdom over a long November weekend, in a private country house in Wiltshire. I sincerely believe that this phase of life can be a joyful journey of transformation where we can feel more alive and connected to ourselves and the world around us that we ever imagined.

Sophie's next retreat will be:
Ageing Gracefully, A Retreat for Women over 40
November 15th – 18th 2018
Chalcot House, Wiltshire
From £650

THE EVE APPEAL

We are super proud to be supporters of the Eve Appeal Charity. The Eve Appeal is the only UK national charity raising awareness and funding research into the five gynaecological cancers – womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal. Cucumber Clothing will be donating 50 pence from every sale of our cashmere range directly to the Eve Appeal.

Here we are at the Eve Appeal's Talking Taboos and Women's Health Panel event with Athena Lamnisos, the Chief Executive, a fantastic and fantastically informative evening. We will be working closely with them over the coming year, so look out for collaborations, talks and fundraising opportunities.

read this I'm Absolutely Fine! A Manual for Imperfect Women by Annabel Rivkin and Emilie McMeekan of The Midult We've been waiting a long time for this collection of ridiculously funny, utterly topical and just plain good sense book from the creators of The Midult. Chapters on 'What could possibly go wrong?' and 'Perfection? You can keep it' have us in thrall. India Knight loves it, need we say more?

do this we still believe the weather gods are smiling, so have booked two tickets to see the darkly romantic film The Shape of Water OUTDOORS with Luna Cinema. We love Luna which brings new and classic films to beautiful outdoor London venues. Don't forget to book your blankets and that bottle of rose (yes, we know it's September, but we can still pretend!)
