Cucumber at Sea
We're thrilled to be supporting Shirley Thompson on her 3000 mile unsupported row across the Atlantic. Determined to do her part in proving age is just a number, here fisher most recent diary entry - we'll get updates every so often as she makes her way across the big water.
Only a month to go until I set off on my solo unsupported Atlantic Row. 3,000 nautical miles to reach the Caribbean.
It's starting to get very real.
The last 8 weeks have been very busy, getting the boat seaworthy for my voyage and organising my supplies. For my three month voyage I need a huge amount of food ( most of this is freeze-dried meals supplemented with snacks). I need to eat around 8,000 calories of food per day or more to keep my energy up, as I will be rowing 12-14 hours per day.
I have also been focusing on building my core strength and doing plenty of upper body exercises as well as spending 3-4 hours a day on my rowing machine. It's not a substitute for rowing on the ocean, but it's the next best thing until Amigo, my wonderful boat, is back on the water.
I have limited space onboard, so everything I take with me needs to serve a purpose and be the best I can get. Thats why I am so thrilled with my Cucumber Clothing shorts and t shirt. The fabrics are so comfy next to my skin, they are lightweight , breatheable and effortless to wear - I hardly know that they are on. This is so important as clothing can tend to rub and chafe especially when salt water is part of the equation. With my Cucumber gear it is so easy to rinse out and its quick drying.
On my most recent trip to the Canaries I put their logo on my boat - who knows it might get seen by the odd passing super yacht?? ;)
